I will post my answer here, because of the new strukture.

What Lena wrote sounds good. She seems to look forward and wasn't draged down by her poor shooting results. So we might see a complete different Lena later this week.

Magdalena got the Kristall-Trophäe last friday, after she was the "Athletin des Winter 2007/08"  by Nordic forum.

Hallo to All of you!!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me translate some mysterious German word?Huh??

I have been studying German for seven years in school but I did not learn anything???!

From Lenas diary!!

"Dass quasi eine Leidensgenossin von mir den heutigen Sieg davonträgt, wird mich für die weiteren Rennen motivieren; "

"Ich selbst werde mich nach dem heutigen Rennen ganz auf meine Kämpfertugenden konzentrieren."

Please help me with these strange words!!!!

It gives my hope to read these positive words, BUT it was written before the last race "the hunt?Huh??" jaktstart on Swedish.

Hmm.... let me try... Grin

"Dass quasi eine Leidensgenossin von mir den heutigen Sieg davonträgt, wird mich für die weiteren Rennen motivieren; "

"I will get motivation for the following races out of the fact that a 'fellow sufferer' has won today."

Zitat
"Ich selbst werde mich nach dem heutigen Rennen ganz auf meine Kämpfertugenden konzentrieren."

"After today's race, I'll focus on my fighting virtues."

I hope this is helpful! Wink

That effectivly a fellow sufferer of me did take away the victory of the today's race will motivate me for the following races.

"Kämpfertugenden ."

fighting virtues (?)

Hi !!
MANY many thanks fore the German word help   Grin Grin Grin Daumen hoch

One more thought -   Roll Eyes

Am I the only one that is stunned by the sudden progress of the Belarus and Ukrainian teams Huh??? Suddenly this season there are so many of them doing remarkably good results - last season there was maybe one or two who made good results....
So I do not understand what has happened this season - BUT I REALLY HOPE THAT WADA ( the doping kontrollers)
KNOW WERE THESE SMALL COUNTRIES ARE....

Björn Ferry - who lives in the tiny tiny village "Storuman" in the north of Sweden - was controlled by WADA this summer, when they came the pop dubbeled. He thought it was great - but surprising..

I get this really bad feeling in my stomach when I see these sudden great result. Biathlon has already a some what bad reputation, and this great sport do not need any more bad press..

Best wishes from Hudiksvall (today +1 C)

Well the thought is good but not even far enough. The same thing could work for the Chunli Wang... Of course, the IBU is testing the winners but nevertheless the other athletes are kind of really angry that some countries are not tested at all - besides the testing done by the IBU.

One can just hope that those surprising results are "clean" results. But I understand the anger of the bigger nations. The Norwegians have been tested in Hochfilzen in the middle of their dinner last week - and they were GLAD about it. But then again: Wang for example hasn't been tested for maybe a year or so...

I'd say, let's rather assume they're innocent until proven guilty. And I'm confident the nice men from WADA know a thing or two about eastern European geography as well. Let's just hope that it's first hand experience and not just theoretical knowledge. Grin

Now for the athletes...
I have to admit, I'm not the least surprised about the successes of Darya Domracheva! This isn't anything that has come out of the blue. She's had some very remarkable results in the second half of last season and the season before, when she was starting both in WC and EC races. At the beginning of last season, however, she seemed under her capabilities and out of form, so I'm very glad to see that at the beginning of this season, she fares better. What she shows these days is about the level I expect from her.

The real surprise for me, however, is Vita Semerenko. Here season opening has been nothing but stunning. But then again, she hasn't been the most stable of all possible athletes last season -- she's only been able to score world cup points in five out of the ten different locations. Considering she has scored in Östersund a lot, but nothing at all in Hochfilzen could indicate whe is still suffering from this lack of stability. It could be that she's just peaked at the opening of the season and will return to her former, arguably mediocre level. Time will tell.

As for the men... I think pretty much the same does apply. Both Deryzemlya and Valiullin have shown in the past that from time to time, they can outgrow themselves and end up in the Top 10 of a race. But again, they usually lack the stability over the course of a season. It just seems to me that these Belorussian and Ukrainian athletes rather peak now than later at the WCH. But once again: We'll see. Maybe time will prove me wrong. At the moment, however, I wouldn't worry too much. Wink

I don't want to speak it out loud, but I think it is quite strange, that some countries show good results after a break like at the beginning of the season or after the break before the championship. I really hope, that this is just a curriosity and nothing, we don't want to think of. Lets see, if these Athletes show the same results during the next 4 Worldcups.

I think it is quite normal that there are some surprising results after longer breaks, because there are big differcences in the preparation and training between different athletes. Often athletes get sick in a period without competitions and are much weaker after break than before. Really strange it becomes, if all athletes of one nation are much stronger after a break than they were before. But I don't see that case this season.

Nice pictures from Östersund... Daumen hoch

One comment - there are many pictures of Magdalena when she puts her right finger in her mouth and pulls off her glove from that finger, this makes of course her shooting better because she fells the "pressurpoint" better when she pulls the trigger....

In a TV interview with Anna Carin Olofsson-Zidek (Huh???) she sad that her hand got so cold during the race and the shooting was difficult because the thick glove stuck to the trigger?Huh??
When the reporter give her the tip to cut a hole in her shootingfinger glove -she looked like she never heard it before.
Strange that such a simple thing is not known in the Swedish camp... Huh?

The latest entry on Magdalenas diary was really nice and impressive.. The shooting was very hard in Hochfilzen - but why does some make it and some not?

Martina Beck for instants. Could she not give her team mates some tips??
I think that it is mostly a mental thing - an mental thing that has much to do with experience. Martina makes her decision and makes the adjustments on her "bioptikal" sight, then she is confident on what she done. If you start to hesitate and doubt you´re ability to make the right decision you are lost - lost like so many was last week. One other fact that I think I saw was that the wind was stronger in the middle of the shooting range, and weaker on the first lanes. So unfair in a way..

Let´s hope for a fair race this week, with a weak steady wind..(for Magdalena´s sake of course!!!)

Have You seen this clip on Youtube from ARD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Ga8EwwjQw

IS Magdalena thinner this season? She really looks super great on the shooting range I think !  Shocked
